Sam Ernest, English major alum, recently checked in with his former SPU professors. Sam had much to say about his post-graduate studies.

“After graduating from SPU in 2015,” Sam begins, “I moved to New Haven to study at Yale Divinity School and Berkeley Divinity School, pursuing a Master of Arts in Religion (MAR) in Religion and Literature and a Certificate in Anglican Studies.” While at Yale, Sam joined the Institute of Sacred Music (ISM) and won the ISM Students Choice for Best Colloquium Prize. “Throughout my time at YDS,” Sam continues, “and particularly in a couple of seminars my third year, I benefited greatly from the company of wonderful and talented friends dedicated to pursuing theological inquiry together.”

Sam finished his masters program in 2018, “and after some time working at Trader Joe’s and freelancing as a research and editorial assistant,” Sam decided to pursue doctoral studies in theology at Yale. His program begins in August of this year.

Throughout his academic career, Sam has been consistent in his focus. The work he’ll be doing in his upcoming Ph.D. studies began, Sam reports, as an SPU undergrad studying abroad at the University of Oxford, through Best Semester’s Scholarship and Christianity in Oxford (SCIO) program, and then completing an honors thesis his senior year.

Good luck in your doctoral program, Sam!
